Disney Internship

While looking for interesting features for my assignment, I stumbled across one that had to do with Disney Internships. The feature is called Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom and it is written by Ross Perlin. The author is very neutral and he tells you what he find out about the internship.  At first I thought that a Disney Internship would be glamorous and a lot of fun, but after reading a couple paragraphs I quickly found out that was not the case. Disney hires interns with promises of exciting things and basically use them as cheap labor. Please read the full story at http://www.guernicamag.com/features/2620/perlin_5_1_11/

News Roundup

The movie, The Lion King, topped the the box office this weekend. To me, it is incredible how people can go and watch a 17 year old movie to the theater and pay 10 bucks because it's in 3d instead of renting it ANYWHERE for a dollar. To see the other movies that topped the box office this weekend go to http://www.imdb.com/

Manchester United tied for the first time this season, away against Stoke City. The Red Devils are still first with 16 points after 6 games played. Mexican Forward Javier Hernandez left the field after the first 5 minutes after a strong collision with Stoke City's goalie. Here is the video in case you missed it.

Even though Charlie Sheen is out of Two and a Half Men, he is still "WINNING". Charlie just settled with Warner Brothers and he is in for a BIG payday. To find out the details of the settlement go to http://www.imdb.com/news/ni15904857/

Fernando "the kid" Torres' career at Chelsea F.C. keeps getting worse. Chelsea bought Torres for $78 million dollars at the start of 2011 and has only managed to score 3 goals in 20 games for the blues, a poor number considering what he did for Liverpool in previous seasons, however, the Chelsea fans are behind him. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/chelsea/8789863/Fernando-Torres-thanks-Chelsea-fans-for-their-support-during-very-difficult-spell-so-far-at-the-club.html

In Mexico, Santos and Morelia will finish the game they started on August 20. As you may know, the game was cancelled after 40 minutes had gone by. The ref stopped the game because gunshots were heard outside the stadium, for the full story please visit http://espndeportes.espn.go.com/news/story?id=1386305&s=mex&type=story&campaign=rss&source=ESPNdeportesSECTION.FUTBOLMEXICO

America, America, America

America, America, America, when are you going to learn? Club America from Mexico, A.K.A my favorite team, just signed a new coach, the fifth one in the last two years. America is the 2nd team with most championships in Mexican soccer history with 10, just behind arch rivals Chivas with 11. Believe or not America is in that place even though they have only won two championships in the last twenty years. The whole team has been a disaster since 2005, which was the year the last championship was won. They keep bringing foreign players that cost millions of dollars who don't really help at all. As a fan I would prefer for the team to give a chance to young players who really love the team rather than keep giving this has beens all these millions of dollars. The problem is not the coaches, It's the owner. The billionaire owner, Emilio Azcarraga, who also owns Mexican TV giant Televisa does not care about the team because he only cares about the money. Money does not buy championships, good players and better owners do.

Guest speaker on Thursday's class

On Thursday we had a special guest speaker in our class, Dylan Smith editor of tucsonsentinel.com was in our class. He created this site because he wanted a local online paper. Dylan alongside a bunch of his co workers were laid off from the Tucson Citizen and decided to create this independent non profit news site. The site is up thanks to donations. According to Dylan 99 percent of the people that work for the site do not get paid, they have a second job or live from their savings. The site welcomes any new writers that would like to volunteer. For more information on how the site works and how you can get to write for them, please visit http://www.tucsonsentinel.com/

Chicharito scores twice in his return to the starting lineup

This past Saturday the Mexican forward Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez made his return to Manchester United's starting 11 in the game against Bolton Wanderers. Chicharito scored twice after he was out for a month. Hernandez suffered a concussion during a training session while his club was in the United States playing some preseason games. These are Chicharito's first two goals of his second season at United. He comes a dream-like first season with the club after scoring 20 goals. Manchester United's next game is home on Sunday against Championship contenders Chelsea. This will be an important test to see where the team really is in the beginning of the sesaon.

Fall Movie Preview

Another thing I like to do besides playing soccer in my spare time is going to the movies, who doesn't right? But something I definitely do not like is leaving the theater feeling like i just wasted 10 bucks. I believe that before going to the movies one should read a couple of reviews of the movie you plan on watching or you can leave the theater feeling like you have been robbed. On the bottom of the post I have provided you with a link for a fall movie preview from Peter Travers, movie critic for Rolling Stone magazine. In the preview he gives hope to Twilight fans everywhere, even though he is not a fan of the books or previous movies, like myself. I hope you enjoy and pick your next movie wisely.

Mexican national team plays in Europe

The Mexican national soccer team played a couple of games in Europe to prepare for world cup qualifying games coming up in early next year. The first game was Friday in Poland against the host country. The game ended up in a 1-1 draw. 48 hours later Mexico played again, this time in Barcelona, Spain against Chile. The game was did not have a lot of intensity considering both teams had used their starters two days earlier, Mexico against Poland and Chile against Spain. The game ended up in 1-0 victory for Mexico.
These games were important because for many years people have wanted for Mexico to play in Europe against competitive teams. The Mexican national team always plays in the US because they feel like they are playing home and also because they get a lot of money doing it. Critics have waited a long time for games like these because they want Mexico to feel the pressure of playing against a difficult team in their home turf. Not losing these two games is a step in the right direction for the Mexican national team who will play against one of the best teams in the world, Brazil, later this year. Below are the links to watch the highlights of both games.

Mexico 1-1 Poland

Mexico 1-0 Chile
